Child-led play allows children to choose how they explore, create and interact with their environment rather than being directed through every activity. At Dumbreck Outdoor Playbarn, children are encouraged to follow their own interests while developing creativity, confidence, problem-solving and social skills.

Activities and resources vary, but the Playbarn offers imaginative role play, crafts, outdoor games, sensory play and opportunities for climbing, exploring and creative problem-solving. Stay & Play sessions also include a facilitated activity led by an experienced early years educator.

The Playbarn encourages children to explore, make choices, solve problems and interact with other children through play. Its approach is centred on giving children space to develop confidence and independence at their own pace.

At Dumbreck Outdoor Playbarn, we strive to make our outdoor play space as accessible as possible for all children, including those with special needs. While the natural outdoor environment means there can sometimes be challenges beyond our control, we are committed to working closely with parents or guardians to understand each child’s unique accessibility requirements. We welcome phone calls to discuss specific needs in detail and explore the best ways we can support and accommodate your child during their visit. Our goal is always to go above and beyond to create an inclusive and enjoyable experience for every child at the Playbarn.

You are welcome to bring snacks or a lunch during our play sessions. We request you take your rubbish and leftovers away, as we have some cheeky squirrel and deer that like to have a look through our bins!

From July–October you can come anytime between 10am–3pm to enjoy a session! The ticket price covers 2 hours, so come 1pm at the latest to make the most of the 2-hour slot.November–May, you can book online for our play session. It runs from 10–12pm.
